Crime and Criminal Justice Survey C A S E together with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation and E E Research focus won a tender in 2007 to conduct surveys of crime and the criminal justice system. The studies were envisaged to constitute a large national household study, institutional surveys based at the courts and the development of indicators to measure improvements in the performance of the National Prosecutions Authority. In 2007 we completed a victims of crime survey which was conducted at the household level. Last year the project delivered a report that was based on a satisfaction survey at the courts. UNICEF BASELINE STUDY The Children's Act of 2005, provides for child and youth care centre’s (CYCCs) as a form of alternative care for children found to be in need of care. The Act requires that child and youth care centre’s register with the Department of Social Development (DSD. More than 350 centres that would have been categorised as children's homes, places of safety and shelters under the Child Care Act are currently registered with DSD. C A S E has been commissioned to conduct a baseline survey of these registered CYCCs. The survey will collect basic information on each of the centres and the individual children residing in them. The resultant database will establish the basis for a set of indicators that will be used going forward to ensure that the centres conform with the requirements of the new Act. Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP) The Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP) is a national programme and was introduced by previous president Thabo Mbeki in his State of the Nation Address dated 14 February 2003.
