Vacancy: Senior Specialist Researcher

C A S E seeks to employ a full time Senior Specialist Researcher  that is an experienced research manager  and supervisor of research staff  to lead one of the areas highlighted below. Apart from undertaking the full spectrum of research activities, Senior Specialist Researchers are also  responsible for procuring research projects and donor funding to support the sustainability of C A S E. S/he will come with well established networks to build partnerships and have highly developed quantitative and qualitative research skills with experience in managing and delivering on projects from inception to completion. Strong evidence of writing high-level research reports and successful project procurement through proposal writing and competitive bidding processes is required.
 
Service delivery
The improvement of service delivery by Govt and NGO’s in foundational aspects of human development is the focus of this area. This would include research that informs the effectiveness of   Social Security  Grants, health, housing, sanitation, water, education and development programmes undertaken by Government that focus on eradicating poverty.
 

Workers and trade unions
This focus is defined by research on poor  and vulnerable workers and their working and living conditions. C A S E works with  trade unions and other organisations that organise and work with poor and precariously employed workers that are both organised and unorganised.

Governance and citizen participation
Research to improve  participation,  community and citizen  monitoring of Government service delivery, community development and reducing corruption in the delivery of public sector services is the focus of this area. The research seeks to strengthen  civil society organisations to enable them to engage more effectively with government.

Requirements

The successful candidate will hold at least a Masters Degree in the Social Sciences or related field. Excellent English  writing skills as well as a driver’s licence are essential. S/he will have extensive networks and the ability to work with partners and other researchers  that would enable the procurement and delivery of large scale  research projects that involve teams of researchers and extensive fieldwork.  Demonstrable competence in applying quantitative research  skills to applied social research questions, the use of statistical packages and electronic data capturing experience will be a definite advantage. At least five years senior research experience including project management responsibilities and evidence of procuring projects and funding, outside of an academic environment is necessary.

C A S E strives to pay  market related salaries that takes into consideration amongst other things the ability of the post to secure income for C A S E, previous earnings and a fair remuneration in relation to other employees. The salary band for this post is between R490 777 to R763 301 total cost to company per annum.
